Apollo

Learning Community

The Apollo Community provides the science, design, and technological education to our students. These subjects are central to driving human progress and transforming the quality of life for millions of people.

In these subjects students learn about the natural world, how things work, and how to make things better.

During their studies students build a wide variety of skills through investigating, analysing, designing, implementing, and evaluating.
They are given confidence to embrace change, respond to new situations, look for new opportunities, and cope with challenges.

They are encouraged to develop enquiring and creative minds. They learn to use current technologies and consider the impact of future scientific and technological developments. Students can respond to these starting points developing their innovation and enterprise skills.

Students gain understanding of ethical, aesthetic, technical, cultural, health, social, emotional, economic, industrial, and environmental issues. They learn to work confidently with others on a wide variety of tasks that combine practical and intellectual skills.

Students reflect upon the present and past uses of science, design and technology. They analyse and make informed decisions about their own work. As students progress they recognise the values of different cultures and traditions relating to their tasks and take these into account.

Developing strong communication skills and applying scientific and mathematical principles is central to all of the studies. Students are expected to record and analyse data, model ideas, discuss and present written reports and portfolios using ICT as appropriate.

The Apollo Community is determined to provide students with world-class experiences that will prepare them for: further study and a broad range of careers; living safely and healthily; making informed ethical judgements; and, making independent economic decisions as they gain understanding of their responsibilities as citizens.
